Our mission is to honor and preserve Chicago’s great literary heritage. We do this through educational programming, awards, exhibits and other special events, particularly our annual induction ceremony. We are also in the process of creating a repository of detailed information about Chicago’s past, present and future literary life, through such projects as the Chicago Literary Map, the Chicago Book of the Day, and the Chicago Literary Calendar.

Chicago Tutoring Connection helps economically disadvantaged students succeed in high school & move on to college or a career. We do this by pairing the students with an adult tutor who supports their academic achievement and provides guidance in life skills. Since 1992, more than 625 students have attended the program for at least one year along with over 800 volunteer tutor/mentors. Over 90% of 12th grade program graduates have entered college.

Chicago Youth Shakespeare (CYS) is dedicated to putting Shakespeare’s timeless works into the hands of 21st-century teenagers. Through innovative performance, education, and outreach programs, CYS is connecting students across Chicagoland with Shakespeare and with each other. CYS is committed to providing a safe space for students of all backgrounds, and to fostering a diverse community of creative young artists and compassionate global citizens.

Chicago Youth Voices Network

We hold regular program meetings. We survey organizations and allocate funds for workshops from outside consultants and internal experts with experience to share. We invite member organizations to participate in events when relevant. We promote each other’s events on social media, and we create and maintain a website that showcases member projects and cyvn as a resource. We are seen as the go-to source for youth voices and organizational leaders. We explore opportunities for joint purchasing and other means of pooling limited resources across member organizations.

Children’s Literacy Initiative

Children’s Literacy Initiative works in PreK to 3rd grade classrooms to improve early literacy education in high-need schools.  We provide research-based, best practice professional training and coaching along with high-quality children’s literature and classroom materials.
